Summer Vacation – Cape Kiwanda

This weeks family adventure was down to the Oregon coast. One of my favorite beaches is down by Cape Kiwanda and Haystack Rock. You simply can’t come to Oregon and not visit Haystack Rock. However, I don’t recall a time when I have been to the beach and it was not foggy! Hurray Oregon Coast! I had pulled up the weather app on my phone and it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day at the beach, 80 degrees and sunny! Well, we got there and quickly realized I had pulled up the wrong “Pacific City” and it was in fact 62 and foggy! We didn’t actually need sweatshirts this time since we were BUSY building sand castles, chasing each other on the beach and playing with Piper! But I always take sweatshirts and a change of clothes because the weather can be insane there.
Cape Kiwanda, Family Day, Oregon Coast, Pacific northwest beaches, top ten beaches in oregon, beaches you can drive on

One of my favorite things about living in Portland is that we can be pretty much anywhere within 2 hours. Our beach day was pretty impromptu, it was like “oh we have a day off altogether? Cool, what should we do?” we had originally planned on spending the day at Oaks Park, but after a very fun and very late Fourth of July, we opted for something a bit less structured.

Beach games, sandcastles, childhood

Oliver the little beach bum building sand castles and roads for his trucks

Corgis, Corgi puppy, doggy beach day

Piper is by far the easiest dog I have ever had, she’s sweet, loving, easy going, and does great every where we take her. She has been the absolute best addition to our family and she LOVED the beach!

I love coffee like this kid loves watermelon!

Paul buried Carson a total of 3 times, I don’t know why this is so fun. But they loved doing it and getting extra sandy! I love any chance I get to spend with my 3 favorite guys doing something fun and active.  I grew up living close to the beach and definitely never appreciated it like I do now.

My favorite part of the day was romping on the sand in my Jeep Cherokee. I bought my Jeep 2 years ago and have definitely used it like it was intended but it is always so much fun to get to play in the sand and not worry about getting stuck, I also love the ease of having a place to tether Piper to the back as well as have all our food and drinks right there instead of hauling a bunch of stuff from the parking lot down to the beach with us!

Excitedly planning next weeks adventure!

Great post! It looks like you had so much fun. Really wishing I lived closer so I could go myself. My family lives in S. Florida so it would be nice to see the other coast. Look forward to reading more of your posts. I just signed up for your emails.

Thank you so much for signing up for email notifications! Oh how lucky are you to live on the warmer coast though! We also get foggy days when we go to the beach!
